Origin of Zen, Shinto
What is Zen?
The purpose of Zen sect, one of the denomination of Buddhism, is to mediate in order to eliminate hesitation or delusion and awaken to the truth. One of the practice used to acquire serenity of mind is Zazen, Which means to sit in silent meditation.
Zen existed in India before A.D, And it was later spread by priest including Bodhidarma, who is believed to have continued meditation in a sitting posture for 9 years.
After studding in China, Japanese priest introduced the Zen sect to Japan in the 12th and 13thcenturies. The existing Zen sect in Japan are the Rinzai sect, Soto sect and Obaku sect.
When were the gods of Shintoism born?
The Kojiki and Nihonshoki, two chronicles written in the early 8th century. depict the ancient myth and history of Japan. According to the myth, there existed the first three gods who were all invisible. Later , a gods of couple produced the eight island of Japan, there gods are object of worship at Shrine as symbol of ancestor.
All nature objects and Phenomena are also worshiped and considered, as the Phrase goes "yaoyorozu-no-Kami"(8million gods)
